Formula High School Racecar Build Program

The Formula High School Race car build program has been developed to assist students to learn employment ready skills while being immersed in a project with real world outcomes. The philosophy is one where the classroom is an engineering business that has been tasked with building a race car that is ready to compete in a 6hr endurance event. Embedded and clustered within the project is the MEM20422 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways. At the end of the program, students that have gained the required MEM20422 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, along with a teamwork attitude and "workplace mindset" will have the opportunity to be selected to then drive the vehicle they built in the 6hr endurance event as part of a team of drivers. This outcome delivers a real world outcome that allows the student to experience the outcomes of their work.

The mindset of the industry experience is listed below:

  • The "Client" for whom the car is built is the school
  • The "Workshop Foreman" who is in control of the workflow and task allocation is the teacher/trainer
  • The newly "Employed Workforce" are the students who are tasked with learning the workshop rules and procedures along with the build process and engineering techniques. This is no different to an engineering business undergoing an expansion and recruiting additional workers to complete new projects in a workshop and the new workforce requires technical and procedural training.
  • The "Company" running the program is Career Employment Australia.
  • The "Contract Program" being offered to the "Client" is the "Formula High School Program"
